Summer is one of the four seasons of temperate zones. It is the warmest of them. Occurs between spring and fall. Summer is characterized in that the days are longer and because the nights are shorter . Astronomically , the summer solstice (around December 21 and the southern boreal June 21 ) marks the beginning of that season . The autumnal equinox (around March 21 and the southern boreal 22-23 September ) 1 specifies the term of that season . Cultural and meteorologically set these dates the beginning of both.
In different cultures , the seasons start on different dates, based on astronomical or meteorological phenomena. However, when summer occurs in the southern hemisphere it is winter in the northern hemisphere. As observed, the boreal summer can be , when it occurs in the northern
hemisphere or southern , when it occurs in the southern hemisphere .
However,
sometimes the summer is defined as all the months of December, January
and February in the southern hemisphere and as all the months of June,
July and August in the northern hemisphere.
