Sonny John Moore, better known by his stage name; Skrillex, is an American electronic musician, a singer, and a songwriter. He was born
in California on January 15, 1988 and was raised by foster parents. After
moving to San Francisco when he was only two years old, he received his first guitar. Which he began composing and writing songs with during his childhood. He was homeschooles at the age of 14 because he suffered bullying at school. In 2004
his life changed dramatically; when he found out that he was adopted. This made him drop out of high school at the age of 16, and travel to Georgia to audition for From First to Last.
Moore was hired at that age to be lead singer in the band From First to Last. He recorded two albums with them (Dear Diary, My Teen Agnt Has a Body Count, 2004, and Heroine, 2006).
In 2007, due to band conflicts, he decided to leave the group and headed to a
solo career in electronic music. He began his first tour as a solo artist in
late 2007. After recruiting a new band lineup, Moore joined the Alternative
Press Tour to support bands such as All Time Low and The Rocket Summer. He
appeared under the pseudonym “Twipz” before he changed his name to
Skrillex. Moore kicked off the "Project Blue Book Tour" in 2011.
He unveiled several new songs on this tour including "First of the Year", "Reptile", and "Cinema". "Reptile" was featured in the TV commercial for Mortal Kombat 9. In 2012, Skrillex won three Grammy Awards:
Best Remix for Cinema, Best Dance Recording for "Scary Monsters”, and Best
Album. Skrillex has been named MTV’s Electronic Dance Music Artist of the
Year. Also, recently his album "Recess" debuted at number one of the Billboard chart.
